I’m so inspired by the dialogue happening on this feed, and by the generally well articulated points made across the board. From the criticisms and nay-saying from folks who feel UBI is bound to go the way of the welfare state or communism, to those who feel it is a desired and inevitable state we are driving toward, it’s clearly a conversation whose time has come.

The challenge I give to myself is to never simply criticize an idea, but to always be thinking about how we can make it better. I believe the current system is severely flawed. And the only way we design something (whether it is UBI or not) that solves for previous systems’ flaws and shortcomings is to focus less on making well articulated criticisms than on considering what we can learn from them. To use negotiations jargon, it is by focusing more on our interests than our positions.

If you don’t think UBI is the solution, what is? And if you think UBI is the solution, how might it fail? How might we prevent that failure through more thoughtful design?
